Eldredge Lumber
Since 1937
From its humble ‘true New Englander’ beginnings, the Eldredge family of companies has grown into a leading supplier of building and home supplies.
Eldredge Lumber was founded in 1937 when Wolfrett “Wolf” Eldredge, grandfather to current owner Scott Eldredge, began marketing lumber salvaged from the demolition of the massive Passaconaway Inn, a 19th century Cape Neddick Summer resort hotel.
Using his sawmill and planing mill, Wolf eventually expanded the business into custom millwork, manufacturing items such as windows and doors, from York Beach, maine. Later, the business was taken over by Wolf’s sons, Burke E. Eldredge and Wolfrett “Sport” Eldredge, Jr. – Scott’s father.
In 1957, a fire destroyed the facility at York Beach and Sport moved the business to Route One in Cape Neddick, Maine. This is where the lumberyard and hardware store were added to the sawmill and the company became Eldredge Lumber & Hardware.
The Business Grows…and Grows
In the early 1980’s, Sport’s son, Soctt, who had been actively involved in the business since he was 12 years old, became the Manager of the company. Sport continued to run the sawmill until the late 1990’s. Shortly after his passing in 1997, Scott moved the business to its current location on Route One in York, Maine.
The Eldredge business has since expanded to include an organic gardening center, a full service lumber yard, a tool and equipment rental and repair division and a roll-off container service. Also at the York location is Atlantic Design Center, a leading edge kitchen, bath and flooring design showcase.
In the Portland area is another Eldredge Lumber store and lumber yard. More recently, Scott added the Marvin Design Gallery in Portland to the Eldredge family of businesses. This is a beautiful state-of-the-art window and door design showcase featuring both Marvin and Integrity window and door products. In 2023 a third Eldredge Lumber store and lumber yard opened on Main Street in Sanford, Maine.
Across the border in Portsmouth, NH is the Eldredge Selectwood store, complete with a Drive-Thru Warehouse equipped with “green” forklifts to move the high-quality, sustainable lumber and materials stocked within.
Branching away from the construction and home design businesses, is Eldredge Bros. Fly Shop in Cape Neddick, Maine. This is a fantastic place for fly fishing anglers to get all the gear, supplies and renowned expertise they need before heading out on the water.
Finally, for those needing some extra ‘space’ there are two ACE storage businesses in York, Maine.
