Stay in the Home You Love!

The kids have grown and are now raising their own families. You’re trying to
decide whether to stay in the home you love and renovate making the changes
needed to age safely in your home or sell. I frequently hear that question
especially in regards to the bathroom and kitchen areas.  As we age our needs change. Physical or medical conditions may make it difficult to access a 2nd floor master bedroom
and bath.  The steps to deciding what is feasible involve bringing in a contractor who
can discuss your wishes and explain the costs involved, and working closely with
a designer who will assist you in making good choices for accessibility as you age
in that new space. Throughout the house there are many things to be taken into consideration.

Building wider doorways, replacing knobs with lever handles on doors and faucets, comfort height toilets, showers with non-slip tile and low or no thresholds, or a bench with a hand
held shower nearby are just a few of the elements involved in designing a safer bathroom. There are many companies making beautiful faucets, grab bars, teak benches. THE GOAL
IS TO RENOVATE SMARTLY AND TO RENOVATE WITH STYLE.  By Suzie Getman
